Areas of Work

Conduct educational programs for commercial citrus producers in Lake, Orange, Brevard, Osceola, Seminole, Marion, and Volusia Counties. Provide research based educational material to assist growers with the production, harvesting and marketing their crop.

  1. Cold protection and dissemination of weather information.
  2. Water management including the use of reclaimed water.
  3. Pest management covering insects, mites, diseases and weeds.
  4. Citrus nutrition; fertilizer rates, time of application, etc.
  5. Variety/rootstock evaluation and selection

Utilize Advisory Committees to determine program needs and set priorities.

Serve as part of Conserv II research site management team. Be involved in decisions effecting current operation and future plans.

Develop programs for other fruit crops to include variety evaluation, marketing and cultivation.

Serve as statewide coordinator for the Certified Pile Burner Program with the Division of Forestry.

Conduct citrus education training for mastergardeners.

Work with 4-H leaders on Citrus Tree Project. Secure trees from nursery, conduct three workshops for youth with trees, secure judges for fair, organize knowledge test, secure potential buyers and conduct sale at fair.
